With 204 professors and 7,200 students, the School of Medicine is the largest school at LMU and one of the leading centers for medical research in Europe. It consists of 14 preclinical and clinical-theoretical departments, as well as 48 clinical departments.

Research Environment

Since 2019, the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda has been driving Munich’s development as an AI hub—in part by establishing 130 AI professorships in the Free State of Bavaria. PULSE talents will become part of the Pettenkofer School for Public Health (PSPH)—a collaboration between the LMU School of Medicine, Helmholtz Munich, and the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety. The PSPH brings together science, teaching, and policy, ensuring that public health research has a direct impact on practice.

The quality of its research is internationally recognized: The Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research at the IBE has been designated a WHO Collaborating Center for Evidence-based Public Health on multiple occasions—one of the highest honors a research institution can receive in this field.
